This past month, we joined the Kauffman Foundation and many other amazing organizations on a webinar to present federal updates on legislation rolling out to support underserved small businesses. This effort is a part of the Start Us Up Coalition, designed as a bipartisan plan for policymakers that is focused on creating new jobs and rebuilding a more equitable economy by supporting more entrepreneurship, and breaking down historic and systemic barriers so that all Americans, regardless of race, gender, and geography, can achieve economic stability, mobility, and prosperity. We were excited to present our recent engagement with Senator Chris Coons’ office last month and updates on the Next Generation Corps Act. We look forward to extending our advocacy efforts in this capacity.
We also take the time to commemorate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by acknowledging the importance of the AAPI community in the U.S. entrepreneurial ecosystem. Diversity enriches and enables dynamic, emphatic, and innovative societies. In the United States, there are more than 555,200 Asian-owned businesses and more than 5,100 Pacific Islander-owned businesses. Please join us in congratulating James Banks, our Program Manager, on his graduation from the University of Virginia! James was part of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Leadership. Although he is officially a 2020 graduate, James was able to celebrate in-person with his friends and family at UVA’s graduation service for 2020 and 2021 graduates last week.
